The battle against drug traffickers is an ever-evolving challenge that requires technological innovation and adaptation. As cartels continue to exploit hard-to-inspect concealment areas to traffic illicit drugs across the southern border, it becomes evident that legacy top-down passenger vehicle X-ray scanning systems are no longer effective. To stay ahead of these criminals, it is imperative that our government embrace cutting-edge detection technology, such as under-vehicle X-ray scanning systems that use X-ray backscatter and transmission technology to scan the underside of a passenger vehicle.

Thousands of vehicles travel in and out of Texas every day on bridges known as ports of entry, and finding and stopping the smuggling of drugs and migrants is a slow process. A new x-ray scanner is expected to change that.

Leidos is providing the company’s VACIS IP6500 MEP, which is integrated with Viken Detection’s Oprey-EVX, a low-energy backscatter imaging technology. Viken’s Osprey-UVX under-vehicle X-ray imaging system will also be available.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reported at least 15 fatal drug overdoses this year. Now the department is one of five across the country with new crime fighting technology geared towards battling the opioid epidemic. It’s a device from Viken Detection, a Massachusetts based company.

Speaking at a news conference Monday, Mayor Bill de Blasio showed off portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) devices, which contractors will use in about 135,000 York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) apartments.

One local company in Burlington is doing its part to limit the amount of drugs coming into the state and country as Massachusetts continues to struggle to fight growing drug problems like the opioid crisis.

Viken Detection of Burlington, Massachusetts, will install four undercarriage X-ray scanners known as Osprey-UVX at two South Texas land ports of entry as part of a contract with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

Viken Detection of Burlington, Mass., had been providing handheld X-ray scanners known as the HBI-120 to CBP and to various law-enforcement agencies before it was awarded a contract recently for new undercarriage X-ray scanners known as Osprey-UVX.

Viken Detection this month unveiled an X-Ray system that can provide real-time imaging for under vehicle inspection, including compartments and spaces beneath the occupants, for relatively high-throughput uses at the border, critical infrastructure, embassies and other security and military checkpoints.
